Netflix’s hit Wednesday has been officially renewed for a second season – after becoming one of the most successful shows ever to air on the streaming platform.
The Addams Family spin-off focuses on teenage goth Wednesday, played by Jenna Ortega, as she moves into boarding school Nevermore Academy.
In an interview with Tudum.com on Friday, creators/showrunners/executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said, “It’s amazing to create a show that has connected with people around the world.
“Excited to continue Wednesday’s twisty journey in season two.”

In its first week of airing in November, the show scored a record 341.2 million hours watched, beating Stranger Things, according to Netflix.
On December 13, the show directed by Tim Burton crossed the bar of 1 billion hours seen.
It’s also the #1 show in 83 countries, tied with Stranger Things.
Netflix said in a tweet: “Wednesday now holds the record for the most hours viewed in a week for an English language series on Netflix, at 341.2 MILLION HOURS!”
“The series – starring Jenna Ortega of EPs Tim Burton, Al Gough and Miles Millar – is No. 1 in 83 countries, tying the record set by Stranger Things 4.”

It landed on Netflix in November and rocketed straight to the top of the most-watched list, beating The Crown, 1899 and Dead to Me.
The chilling drama sees Catherine Zeta-Jones play the one and only Morticia, and her husband Gomez played by Luis Guzmán, along with Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) and Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez).
Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday in The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993) also has a guest appearance on the Netflix show as Professor Miss Thornhill.
Alfred Gough previously hinted at a possible follow-up, saying there’s “definitely more you can explore in The Addams World.”
Speaking to Empire, Gough said: ‘[Screenwriter] Miles Millar and I talk about it among ourselves. There’s definitely more you can explore in the Addams World.
In an interview with TV Line, Millar also confirmed talks are underway – with producers keen to focus on other family members, rather than just Wednesday.
This comes after viewers were shocked by the way scenes in the show were filmed.
On Sunday, Netflix gave at-home audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the latest hit show.
Photographs posted to the streaming giant’s Twitter account showed actor Victor Dorobantu wearing a bluescreen suit with his bare hand exposed.
Both Wednesday and Ortega earned nominations — Best TV Series (Musical/Comedy) and Best Actress (Musical/Comedy) — at the 80th Golden Globe Awards, which airs Jan. 10 on NBC/Peacock.
Jenna faces stiff competition against Jean Smart from Hacks, Quinta Brunson from Abbott Elementary, Selena Gomez from Only Murders in the Building and Kaley Cuoco from The Flight Attendant.
