Bay Area punk/thrash metal crossover band members HEMORAGE escaped without serious injury after being run over by a “reckless driver” early Saturday morning in San Francisco.
“We came from Sacramento to play an afterparty”, HEMORAGE guitarist Jon Orc Told ABC KGO, San Francisco branch. “We were on our way home. As we were coming off the freeway, a guy was going about 60 to 80 miles an hour. And he hit us really hard. And he dragged us.”
In a social media post, HEMORAGE explained that orca and guitarist/singer Toby Bona Pak just dropped off the drummer Ron Roussel when they were hit. Bona Pak was taken to the emergency room with minor injuries, treated and released.
“He hit the right side of our bus and kept pressing the accelerator pedal and eventually [tried] to get away,” the group wrote. “Fortunately, there was an officer in the next block who pulled over and arrested the driver.
“Our bus is destroyed and we don’t know how much damage is done to our equipment at this time. Toby had to go to the emergency room and luckily he did not suffer serious injuries. He is now with his family and recovering. Jon and his wife miss suffered no injuries but only pain as a result of the collision.
“We are grateful that none of us were injured and we can take time to rest and recover from this event. We will start to pick up the pieces and figure out what our next moves will be after the holidays.”
HEMORAGE created a GoFundMe page to raise money to buy a new bus — which could cost upwards of $20,000 — as well as the thousands of dollars needed to replace damaged equipment.
According to ESP Guitars, HEMORAGE started doing guerrilla-style touring in 2017, outfitting a mini tour bus with gear and merchandising items, then traveling to various events to bring their sound to people, whether they were expecting it or not. nope. The band usually stops where it looks like it will have a receptive audience – mostly dive bars, clubs and arenas where other metal bands used to play – and starts performing when the shows end and people are starting to filter in parking lots or directly on the street. During one of these concerts last April, HEMORAGE stopped his bus in front of the tour stop in San Diego, California, “The Bay Strikes Back” with WILL, EXODUS and ANGEL OF DEATH. EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt noticed them and posted a video of the band on his instagram that night saying:HEMORAGE are raging in the streets of San Diego! Ride in a mini bus, start killing it right next to our bus, just the coolest thing ever, damn security guard!”
Last night (24/12/22) around 1:30. After dropping off Ron, our drummer at his studio. We were hit by a driver who was fleeing another crime scene. He hit the right side of our bus and kept pressing the accelerator pedal and finally tried to run away. Luckily there was an officer on the next block who pulled over and arrested the driver.
Our bus is destroyed and we don’t know how much damage is done to our equipment at this time. Toby had to go to the emergency room and luckily he didn’t suffer any major injuries. He is now with his family and recovering. Jon and his wife Missy suffered no injuries, only pain as a result of the collision. We are grateful that none of us were injured and we can take the time to rest and recover from this event. We’re going to start picking up the pieces and figuring out what our next moves are after the holidays.
