Warriors’ Anthony Lamb charged with rape in lawsuit against University of Vermont

Golden State Warriors forward Anthony Lamb is accused of raping another student-athlete in 2019 while attending the University of Vermont.

Kendall Ware, a former UVM Division I swimmer, made the allegations in a civil lawsuit filed against the school on Tuesday. In this case, she claims the school mishandled and showed “deliberate indifference” to “student-to-student sexual harassment and assault”.

Ware says in the lawsuit that Lamb raped her at an off-campus party held at the house where Lamb lived on Sept. 7, 2019, after their six-month relationship ended that summer. She claims the assault took place in Lamb’s bedroom following an altercation, during which Lamb shouted and insulted her in the driveway in front of the house.

At the time, Lamb was a junior and Ware was 19.

The following month, Ware reported the alleged assault, along with two others involving Lamb, to the school’s Title IX office, according to the complaint. He says she was dissuaded from seeking a formal investigation by a number of UVM employees, including athletic director Jeff Schulman.

Ware has previously discussed her assault with the Burlington Free Press, saying she was raped by a male basketball player in 2019 and the school let her down in their Title IX process. Ware did not identify an attacker at the time.

Lamb, who played in Vermont from 2016 to 2020 before not being drafted, is not a defendant in the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Burlington.

“The allegations made against me in 2019 that recently resurfaced are patently false,” Lamb said in a statement delivered through the Warriors. “I have always been fully cooperative regarding the alleged incident and have welcomed any investigation into it. Simply put, I have never committed a sexual assault.

Ware filed the lawsuit jointly with two other women who also allege they were sexually assaulted in two separate incidents (not involving Lamb) while students at UVM. The plaintiffs seek unspecified damages. The three women claim the school “ignored known and obvious conditions that significantly increased the complainants’ risk of sexual assault on campus by other students.”

“Anthony is not a defendant in this recent lawsuit and, to the best of our knowledge, he has never been charged with wrongdoing in any court case,” the Warriors said in a statement to SF Gate. “Before signing Anthony in September, we did our due diligence with the NBA and its previous teams, as we do with all players. If new information comes to light, we will certainly assess it and act accordingly.

Warriors general manager Bob Myers had responded to the accusations at a press conference on October 16after the team signed Lamb to a two-way deal.

“We’ve checked with the NBA, we’ve checked with the two teams that signed him before, and we haven’t heard anything in terms of any official charges or anything like that,” Myers told Reuters. ‘era. “It’s difficult because we take it very seriously.”

In a statement to “Seven Days” on Wednesday, a UVM spokesperson said university officials “are sorry to learn of the individual situations that each of these complainants have recounted and we want all survivors know that they are heard, supported and respected.

“We stand behind our strong procedures and protocols, and the support provided by the dedicated people who carry out this work with the highest degree of professionalism, integrity and care. Although an independent review last year found that UVM met or exceeded all criteria for responding to sexual misconduct, we have implemented many changes to our protocols.

Prior to joining the Warriors in August, Lamb worked with the Rockets and Spurs, as well as a number of G League affiliates.
