That wraps up the announcement of the DJI Mavic 3 Classic, a quick tour of DJI’s latest drone that seeks to advance technology with a 46-minute flight time.
Pricing:
What the Classic doesn’t have is the internal storage or ProRes codes of the Mavic 3 Cine, but it’s still a significant step up from the Mavic 3 (original) anyway – like this, drone users will have to provide fast MicroSD storage.
Retaining the stock chassis also means the drone uses the same batteries, has the same ADS-B receiver, and sports full collision detection and APAS 5.0.
The new Mavic 3 Classic represents DJI’s answer; a cheaper way to access the Hasselblad 4/3 rds CMOS 20 megapixel camera, 46 min flight time of the original drone without spending so much money.
This is the DJI Mavic 3 Classic!
In case you just joined us, DJI is about to announce a new drone, rumors suggest a cheaper version of the popular DJI Mavic 3. You can watch the announcement LIVE with us LIVE via YouTube video below :
We are now 8 minutes away from finding out what the new DJI drone will be, will it be a cheaper Mavic 3 as rumors suggest, or something completely different, only time will tell!
How to Watch the DJI Drone Launch Event
You can watch the official announcement on DJI’s YouTube channel in the meantime, and you can sign up through DJI’s official website to be noticed when the announcement takes place. But if that’s all too much trouble, we’ve included the YouTube link below so you can watch the announcement live with us LIVE!
As you’d expect, YouTube’s waiting room comments section is full of suggestions for what this new drone could be with comments from user Dronie:
“Maybe they take the camera design out of the Mavic 3 to make the inspire 3” – I don’t think that’s really the thing DJI does to make a new drone, especially one that’s so focused on the cinema that the series Inspires.
While others really want a DJI Pocket 3 to be advertised with comments such as “Pocket 3, Pocket 3, please run it” from Amusement And Adventure, or “no pocket 3 this year so? sigh…”
Although it’s sadly very doubtful that DJI is announcing a new pocket camera in today’s announcement, I personally think it’s due to an upgrade and I think DJI should definitely consider a predecessor for the practical vlogging camera.
Obviously the next issue would be recording codecs, if DJI were to reduce internal memory we can also see them limiting recording codes such as Apple’s Pro Res to make DJI Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine the go-to options for really serious space filmmakers. Other options could be to drop the optical zoom down to 10x rather than the larger 28x of the Mavic 3 and then we could see a decent price drop to around $1500 / £1300 – which would fit nicely between the current DJI lineup of the DJI Air 2S and Mavic 3
All of this combined with the lack of a telephoto lens makes a compelling case for the new DJI Mavic Classic – but please take into account that no official information from DJI has been announced and the above is our own personal speculation.
According to previous leaks from reliable DJI leaker @DealsDroneaccount on Twitter, the main difference will be that the Classic version will omit the Mavic 3’s telephoto camera and only offer a single 20MP Four Thirds CMOS sensor for video and photos – which to use doesn’t really feel downgraded on this already professional-grade drone – so you can get really good value for money with this new drone, which is always nice.
Leaked photos and an FCC filing suggest that the launch of the Mavic 3 Classic is now imminent. Which can mean great news for aerial enthusiasts, as the price will most certainly be lower than the current DJI Mavic 3.
The DJI Mavic 3 has been out for just under a year, with its 12MP telephoto lens and 28x hybrid zoom made in collaboration with Hasselblad. This sophisticated professional-grade drone is capable of capturing 20MP photos and 5.1K video thanks to its Micro-Four-Thirds CMOS sensor and has an impressive flight time of up to 46 minutes.

You might say it sounds like an amazing drone, and you’d be right, but all of these features come at a cost, and that cost is currently $2,049 / £1,729 – so that’s a steep price to swallow. But that could all change today, as recent rumors suggest the flagship will soon be getting a more affordable little sibling called the DJI Mavic 3 Classic – which could be the drone DJI will announce today at 9 a.m. EDT / 1 p.m. GMT (which operates at 12:00 AEDT on November 3)
Today is the day DJI is due to launch a new drone slated for 9am EDT / 1pm GMT (which equals 12am AEDT on November 3) and the big hint that it could be a new Mavic is that the camera lens has already been teased by DJI themselves.
We’ve included the YouTube video below which will showcase this new drone as it unfolds LIVE – anyone else excited? were excited!
While we wait to see what DJI has up its sleeve for tomorrow’s new drone launch, now is a great time to remind you of Black Friday.
This year, Black Friday is November 25, and the majority of the best camera deals won’t be live by then, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some pretty good deals. Whether you shoot with a mirrorless camera or a DSLR, price reductions were available on all types of cameras and photography accessories during last year’s sales. Any fan of action cams, instant cameras or drones could score a bargain in this year’s sale, like the DJI FPV Combo – it was the star of the show at the event of the year latest with a huge discount down to just $999 / £899.

DJI Mavic 3 Classic: what we expect to see
Rumors about the DJI Mavic 3 Classic have been circulating for a while now, and the specs for this new drone have been up in the air for a while.
According to WinFuture leaks (opens in a new tab), @DealsDrone (opens in a new tab)and @JasperEllen (opens in a new tab)the Mavic 3 Classic is likely to omit the telephoto lens seen on DJI’s current flagship, the DJI Mavic 3 (opens in a new tab). This means that, as DJI’s invite suggests, it will only offer a single 20MP Four Thirds CMOS sensor for video and stills – which is still worthy of 4K video and capable of delivering outstanding aerial photography, while leaked images of the drone also suggested that the Hasselblad collaboration is still present in this lower spec drone.
Hello #Mavic3classic. Removing the Telelens made it 4 grams lighter. And thanks to my friend @rquandt for digging up these photos. pic.twitter.com/dMaTiB6yg2October 27, 2022
This type of strategy has worked well for DJI in the past, originally offering the DJI Mini 2 (opens in a new tab)then offering the DJI Mini SE (opens in a new tab) as a cheaper alternative by doing away with its RAW photo capture and only offering 2.7K video capture compared to the more expensive DJI Mini 2’s 4K video recording.
To bring the price down DJI will have to make some cuts somewhere and without knowing any official information it’s hard to speculate what might come to fruition, however if we had to guess we’d say a strip down on the huge 1TB SSD found on the Mavic 3, with DJI opting for a 256GB/500GB option on the Mavic 3 Classic, that would be a good price cut, without entirely giving up the storage freedom to take multiple flights a day.
