NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card listed by US and UK retailers, starting at US$1200

NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4080 graphics cards won’t launch until November 16, but US and UK retailers have started listing custom models.

NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4080 16GB graphics cards appear at US and UK retailers, starting at US$1200 MSRP

Currently, two retailers list NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 16GB cards. These include Newegg (US) and LaptopsDirect (UK). Both retailers listed the 16GB variant as we know the RTX 4080 12GB variant was “launched” just a few weeks ago. This will therefore allow consumers to easily distinguish between the card rather than trying to differentiate between two cards with the same name with a huge disparity in performance.

Starting with the Newegg listings, we have the PNY XLR8 Gaming VERTO GeForce RTX 4080 cards which are available in non-OC and OC flavors. These models are listed for a starting price of US$1199.99 for the non-OC variant, while the OC variant is expected to sell for slightly more. Both maps have been listed but there is no pre-order link and users will be able to make their purchases on November 16.

UK retailer, LaptopsDirect, lists three Palit GeForce RTX 4080 graphics cards in GameRock and OmniBlack custom flavors. Prices start at 1449 pounds and go up to 1529 pounds. The price of the cheapest model is converted to US$1682, a 40% premium over NVIDIA’s MSRP. There are two reasons why the price is so high, firstly this is a preliminary listing and secondly UK retailers also include VAT which is around 22% for the region. So that should be enough to explain the higher prices.

“Official” specifications of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 16GB graphics card is expected to use a scaled-down AD103-300 GPU configuration with 9,728 cores or 76 SMs enabled out of a total of 84 units, while the previous configuration offered 80 SMs or 10,240 cores. While the full GPU comes with 64MB L2 cache and up to 224 ROPs, the RTX 4080 could end up with 48MB L2 cache and lower ROPs also due to its scaled-down design. The board should be based on the PG136/139-SKU360 PCB. The graphics card is said to offer a maximum clock frequency of 2505 MHz.

As far as memory specs go, the GeForce RTX 4080 is expected to rock 16GB GDDR6X capacities which would be scaled to 22.5Gbps speeds on a 256-bit bus interface. This will provide up to 720 GB/s of bandwidth. This is still a bit slower than the 760 GB/s bandwidth offered by the RTX 3080 since it comes with a 320-bit interface but a low 10 GB capacity. To compensate for the lower bandwidth, NVIDIA could integrate a next-generation memory compression suite to compensate for the 256-bit interface.
