Marvel Snap Skipped A Basic Card Game And It Worked

But as developer Second Dinner’s Ben Brode explained on Twitter, while the lack of a mulligan was an issue with early testers, the developers solved it with just one small change to a single map.

“We knew that once players understood how the Cube worked and how you could bail at any time for just a small loss of Cubes, the impact of bad luck would be lessened,” Brode wrote. “And also, missing a drop or two in Instantaneous is really different from other card games. There is no ‘tempo’ in Instantaneous. You don’t “lose control of the board” by not playing a card early. It might not be the best, but you’re definitely not doomed.

Even though Brode and the team were confident that players wouldn’t miss the mulligan once they got the hang of the game, the amount of early feedback about not being able to play anything in the first round and not not having the ability to trade cards was hard to ignore. But instead of completely reworking the game, the team made just one change. He placed Quicksilver in the game players start the game with.
