Apple plans to release several new Macs in the coming months, including new MacBook Pro, Mac mini and Mac Pro models, according to Bloombergis Mark Gurman.
In its latest “Power On” newsletter, Gurman said Apple is continuing work on Apple’s first silicon Mac Pro, as the company has apparently stepped up testing of the device internally. The high-end Mac desktop is said to feature chip options that are at least two or four times more powerful than the M2 Max, dubbed “M2 Ultra” and “M2 Extreme”. Gurman expects the Mac Pro to come with options for 24 and 48 CPU cores and 76 and 152 graphics cores, as well as up to 256GB of memory.
Gurman added specific information about a particular Mac Pro configuration that is apparently under active testing at Apple: a model with 24 processor cores (including 16 performance cores and eight efficiency cores), 76 graphics cores and 192 GB. of memory. The machine is said to be running macOS Ventura 13.3.
As expected, Gurman said the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will be available in M2 Pro and M2 Max configurations. The M2 Max is said to have 12 CPU cores (with eight performance cores and four efficiency cores) and 38 GPU cores, and will continue to ship with up to 64GB of memory. The M2 Max should continue to be available on both display size models.
The next-generation Mac mini will allegedly feature the same M2 chip as the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro. Apple tested an M2 Pro chip inside the new Mac mini, with an increased core count, but Gurman didn’t say if the company was using that model.
While he doesn’t expect the new Mac Pro to launch until 2023, Gurman said he expects the next-generation MacBook Pro and Mac mini models to launch “in the coming months. come”.
